South East Iceland Nature Research Center (Náttúrustofa Suðausturlands) is a regional institute of natural research and is based in Hornafjörður and in Kirkjubæjarklaustur. It was opened in 2013 and is one of eight regional Nature Research Centers in Iceland.
Roles
The major roles of the South East Iceland Nature Research Center according to Icelandic Legislation no. 60/1992 are:
– To do scientific research on SE Iceland nature with focus on SE Iceland natural phenomenon.
– To collect data and references regarding the natural history of SE Iceland.
– To promote acceptable land use, nature conservation and environmental education for schools in SE Iceland
